Creating AustinMan: An Electromagnetic Voxel Model of the Visible Human

The objective of this thesis was to develop an electromagnetic voxel model of the human body. The male dataset from the Visible Human Project was used to create the so called AustinMan Electromagnetic Voxels model. A graphical user interface, the Boundary and Region Software Kit (BRISKit), was created in MATLAB for users to label image slices with their respective tissues, identify tissue boundaries, edit the labeled tissues, and review the tissues labeled in each slice. A semi-automated, highly-interactive method was developed to ensure accurate results within a reasonable timeframe. The methods and algorithms used to develop the AustinMan model are described in this thesis. Additionally, all assumptions regarding tissue labeling and problematic regions have been carefully documented and are made available on the web. The AustinMan model is currently available for download for research and teaching purposes.
